What to Wear in the Maldives: Dress Code for Resorts and Local Islands

At private resorts, you can wear swimsuits, shorts, and casual beachwear freely.

However, on local islands, modest clothing is required in public areas:

For women: T-shirts, dresses that cover shoulders and knees

For men: Shorts and T-shirts are fine

Swimwear is only allowed at designated bikini beaches on local islands. It’s best to pack lightweight, breathable clothes, a scarf or cover-up, and reef-safe sunscreen.
